The highly anticipated Black Clover movie now has a release date for March next year, as confirmed by Black Clover’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #45 in Japan.
The Black Clover movie has been talked about for quite some time now. On the occasion of Black Clover’s 5th anniversary, the official Twitter account confirmed the film’s production, and the tweet promised to release new information about it this week! It looks like the promise has been kept as the new issue of the BC WSJ gives us more details on the upcoming project.
The official news comes from Black Clover’s Weekly Shonen Jump issue 45, which announces the release of the film on March 31, 2023. The film will be released on Netflix and will also have a Roadshow release. For those unaware, a Roadshow release in Japan includes the release of a title in a limited number of theaters in a few major cities and only for a very short period of time. The title of the film is revealed to be “Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King”.
Any other news on the film?
A new artwork has also been shared to commemorate the announcement, drawn by Yuki Tabata (Black Clover’s screenwriter) himself. The artwork shows Asta holding his Demon Slayer Sword.
An illustration of the previous Witch King, Conrad, was also shared. The text reads “Toshihiko Seki”, a famous Japanese voice actor. The illustration clearly indicates that it is he who will interpret the character of Conrad. We are still waiting for more information about the film, such as the other cast and staff members, the animation studio, and the story it will cover. But the Jump Issue confirms that it will reveal all this information soon.
The creators have also decided to broadcast special scenes from the series on TV Tokyo every week from October 9. The scenes that air will be decided by the cast and staff of the series. The Black Clover movie is considered a non-canonical project, as the TV series didn’t leave us with many chapters after covering 170 episodes.. So there aren’t many chapters left to make a one-and-a-half-hour or two-hour movie.
