While he is lost in thought, six masked men suddenly arrive and supposedly kill one of his men. They claim to be Wandenreich and declare war on Soul Society. Although the Masked Men don’t give much of an explanation, Wandenreich is actually a secret Quincy Empire that plans to destroy the Spirit World.

Around 1,000 years ago, the Quincy lost the war against the Shinigami and were forced to flee the human world. They ended up ending up in Seireitei which they thought was safer to regroup. Using the Reishi that is abundant there, they created their hidden empire and waited to gather enough power to take over the world, while destroying Soul Society in the process.

Although the leader of the 6 Masked Men never introduces himself to the captain, it is later revealed that he is actually an Arrancar named Luders Friegen. Although he respects the Emperor of Wandenreich, he is quite condescending towards his compatriots and seems to consider himself superior to them. However, Ebern is quick to point out that he would never bow to someone like him. Before he can fully understand what is happening, Luders’ right arm is severed and falls to the ground.

It turns out that Asguiaro Ebern is actually bowing to an irate man sitting on a throne, who tells Luders he hates conflict and asks for his report on recent developments. Although the series ends there and doesn’t offer much insight into his identity, it turns out that the mysterious man is none other than Yhwach, whom his subordinates affectionately refer to as Father du Quincy. He is not only the current emperor of the Wandenreich but also the son of the Soul King.
