This is what happened between Elvis and Colonel Tom Parker

Now here comes the answer. Elvis Presley didn’t fire his manager onstage. However, tension grew between them in Las Vegas. Alanna Nash, the writer of the book The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley, stated that Elvis fired his manager in 1973.

But not in public. Post this. Tom Parker demanded a heavy fine from Elvis. However, the amount is debatable. The film shows that it is 8 million dollars. But, some estimates believe that it is around 2-2.5 million dollars. The singer was unable to pay the huge amount. He had no options left. The duo got back together after this.

This scene was inspired by an incident that occurred in September 1973. Presley was upset onstage when the Las Vegas Hilton fired a kitchen worker he liked. This also caused an argument between him and Parker. As a result, Elvis fired his manager.

Tom Parker had great control over Elvis’s life. This was the main reason for the conflict between them. Parker influenced his professional and personal decisions. It also included his decision to marry Priscilla. But the American actress filed for divorce five years after the marriage. It was in 1973, on Elvis’s 38th birthday. Afterwards, the two remained on cordial terms. Parker helped Elvis start his career.

He brought profitable business for the singer. It included the contract with RCA Victor, TV appearances and public relations management. This helped Elvis out of poverty. Elvis wanted to make revolutionary music. But Parker restricted it to commercial feel-good songs. He also disapproved of Presley’s wish for a world tour. He even secured Elvis a five-year contract with the Las Vegas Casino Residency.

Later, Presley learned that Parker couldn’t leave the country because he was an illegal immigrant. It is also said that Parker kept half of Elvis’s earnings. But according to Todd Slaughter, he only had twenty-five percent.

Todd has been the president of the biggest Elvis fan club for fifty years. Even after Presley’s death in 1977, Parker continued to manage his estate. His gambling addiction and multiple health problems made him miserable. The corrupt manager finally died in 1997.
