Who is Ted in Werewolf By Night?
The Man Thing first appeared in 1971, specifically in issue #1 of Marvel Comics’ Savage Tales. Before becoming the creature, the character worked as a biochemist under the name of Dr. Ted Sallis when he was recruited for a special project to replicate the super-soldier serum that created Captain America.
During an AIM attack, Ted injected himself with the serum to prevent them from getting their hands on the sample before crashing his car in the swamps. Unbeknownst to Tedthe swamp contained a link to the Nexus of All Reality, which caused the sample to transform Ted into a massive red-eyed creature made up of the surrounding plant matter.
Although The Man Thing has superhuman strength and durability thanks to his size and connection to the magical properties of the Nexus, he was not known for his intelligence, given that he lost Ted’s consciousness for much of the character arc. He also lost the ability to speak, which is also the case in Werewolf by Night. To find out if a sequel will see the light of day, it’s here.
